This page is a tribute to my dad, Dewey. The most important thing in the world to him has always been family. My many memories include him showing support by attending school events, girl scout events (he was a Girl Scout!), and life events. Those memories include playing in his 18 wheeler truck in a shopping center parking lot, watching him break his tail bone sledding down the hill, seeing him get angry when I got my heart broken, giving me away at my wedding, crying with me when my kids graduated, laughing with me when there was humor, and most recently, being anxious and scared as those memories have slipped away from him. Now it is up to my family and I to remember for him.
He always had humor to get our family through hard times and wisdom to get us through scary times. I have been passing on his advice to my own children. Advice that has made me who I am and has encouraged me to always be better, do what's right and protect my loved ones.
The heartbreak of seeing this devastating disease take the strongest, most loving, supporter in my life and watching him lose a part of himself each day has forced me in to action. I am fighting for him. I am fighting for those memories. I am fighting for his past and his future. I am fighting to help others to not have to go through this. I need you to help me fight.
I joined the fight against Alzheimer's by creating an online tribute page in my loved one's honor. By taking this step, I'm raising funds to support the critical work of the Alzheimer's Association: providing care and support for families, advancing promising research and offering a lifeline through their free 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900). Every dollar raised helps ensure that no one faces Alzheimer's alone.
You can help my fight by donating to my hike, which is coming up soon, the walk to End Alzheimer's, which is in October.
I'd be so grateful if you would make a gift in honor of my dad. It would mean a lot to me, my family, my dad and those facing this relentless disease.
A future without Alzheimer's is out there. Let's get there, together.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
