Welcome to my virtual luminary page

In loving memory, of a wonderful dad, amazing grandpa and fun-loving great grandpa.

We raise funds in honor of the legacy he left behind as the pillar to our family. From his brightest smiles, to his biggest hugs and his love for poker, we left us with many priceless experiences and memories. 2021 was one of the roughest years that my family and I had to endure. The pandemic had taken the world by storm and the force of the impact from keiki to kupuna and their families was undeniable. We went through the process of navigating health care during the pandemic finding ways to get him care, to be able to hold his hand and to be able to ensure quality care to him when he needed it most. What made it so difficult you ask? The memory loss, the confusion, the unrecognizable fact that this disease had now come to my family's doorstep and it was personal. We were so blessed to be able to bring him home and be by his side in his last days. To this day, I still struggle with the "should've", "could've" and "would've", as certain smells or places or experiences trigger me, but at the end of the day, I remember, when I get angry or hurt, what does that do? I remind myself, my kids, and friends that we need to channel this pain, this hurt, this confusion, to a greater cause. We need to use our experiences and in light of the pain, fight on so that there are no more loved ones lost, and that these memories and families are preserved for generations to come.

My family and I enjoy this event as one of many that we participate in, remembering our grandpa Rex, all those lost, still fighting and their family and friends. We love him and miss him ever day. We remember him always and it is such a heartwarming feeling to know he is watching down on us.

The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light -- the summer solstice. And it's the day I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! I'm participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, 16 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.

We as sons, mothers, friends, neighbors, the community need to stand up and stand together. Remember what the spirit of Aloha stands for.
