Remembering Dawn Marie

Dawn Marie Peskind, 62, of Batavia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, leaving behind a world made better for having known her.

If you asked anyone who loved her, they’d tell you the same thing: Dawn was simply the sweetest. Her kindness, patience, and warmth knew no bounds — whether she was cheering on her kids from the sidelines, entertaining the people she loved, or setting out a fresh batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she gave herself to them completely. As a mother, she was calm, loving, and endlessly devoted — the kind of parent you don’t fully appreciate until you become one yourself. The love she and her husband Bill shared was the kind you read about — selfless, steady, and real. Together they gave their children a living example of what true love looks like.

Dawn was known for her beauty — and that smile. It could light up any room and was a reflection of everything she was on the inside.

After a courageous, long, and private battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, Dawn is now at peace. Her family is deeply grateful to her devoted caregiver, Irene, whose compassion and dedication meant the world.

She is preceded in death by her father, Don Mazur, and brother, Don Mazur Jr. She is survived by her husband, Bill Peskind; her mother, Ann Mazur; her brother, Thomas (Lisa) Mazur; her children Brittany (Brandon) Brown, Michael Peskind, and David (Sabrina) Peskind; and her grandchildren, Weston Maze and Cameron Marie.

The morning after she passed, Chicago woke to an unseasonably warm, sunny day. Hearing the birds sing and feeling the sun, it was easy to picture the smile on her face. She was at peace — and for the days ahead, that brings her family comfort.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
