Celebrating Jay Preskenis!

Friends and family of Jay - Brielle asked that we set up a tribute page as folks are asking where they can donate in honor of Jay. The Alzheimer's Association has been working with the Noonan family for decades as part of the DIAN study - Dominantly Inherited Alz Network. As a prior national board member of the Alzheimer's Association, I can assure you that the team there is focused on a world without Alzheimer's and all dementias. Funds in Jay's memory will be funneled to the DIAN Trials Unit Primary Prevention trial. I'm happy to answer questions you might have or connect you with experts in the field. The Alz Help Line - 800-272-3900 is staffed 24x7 with a team that can answer questions and provide support. As we continue to grieve this devastating disease, please join me in fighting back! I've included words from Jay, in an update below, from both his letters to us. Love to all of you... cousin Debbie Barbato Pierson (monopoly loser and childhood bike riding companion)

Jay's Letters

Saturday 25th Apr

Dear Friends and Family,  This letter is difficult, almost impossible, but important for me to write.  As many of you know, last summer I learned that I have a mutation on the gene APP-717 that causes early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Recently I received PET scan results that indicate Amyloid plaque has been building up for many years and has spread throughout my brain. That knowledge has propelled me to make some immediate changes, including making a bucket list, connecting and making memories with the people I love, and intentionally saying goodbye as I prepare to exit this precious life.

As many of you know, we had planned a twelve week trip to visit memories and friends across the country, and as you probably read on our “FindPenguin” app we turned around after only two weeks on the road, rather than making it for the original 12 week “Bucket List.” I am sad to share that I have been declining rather quickly.  It’s confusing for me to think about not being on this beautiful, fragile planet and what happens next.

Even so, this afternoon we talked as a family this afternoon an have decided to move my Celebration of Life to a much sooner date so that I can be as present as possible.   And, as importantly, I want to make sure that I have the skills to be cognizant and conversant.   I have days that I significantly struggle and other days seem ok.

Given this, we discussed this situation and decided to move my “Celebration of Life” to Sunday, May 3. I am sorry for this unexpected change, but I still hope many of you can attend. So grateful for your love and support,~jay
