My Father Larry Deckbar was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 7 years ago, he succumbed to this awful disease 12/11/2025 surrounded by his family.
Over the years and especially the last three weeks the disease really took its toll, not only on my father but our family as well. See most people know of this awful disease, but never know just how Devastating it really is. The portrayal in movies, tv, and media don’t scratch the surface of the impact it has on those closest to the victim. Different from diseases like cancer the victim with Alzheimer’s doesn’t know most of the time what is happening or how far they are removed from themselves, that falls solely on the family and those closest to them. The mind deteriorates but the body is still strong. This makes it extremely hard during the final phase of life. My Father was brought in to a hospital and sedated due to agitation. He stopped eating and drinking at all and we were forced to make a decision that no one should have to make and sedate him until he passes. This was a grueling and frankly brutal process. While he didn’t know anything was happening because the hospital workers did an amazing job making him comfortable, we as the family sat with him waiting and hoping it would all be over fast. Unfortunately it wasn’t fast enough. We watched him wither away for 14 days until he finally passed.
Through this process my family and I made a pact to bring better awareness to this devastating disease. With that said we are asking in lieu of flowers or gifts to donate to the research of Alzheimer’s in hopes of a cure, and to the support of those family and friends who have to live through this awful process with their loved one.
Thank you so much for all of the support!
Larry and the Deckbar Family

We’re sorry for loss and hardship the family has experienced. Larry was a wonderful man, husband, and father. No family should experience the loss of a family member in this way. Our prayers are with you all!
