The Shortest Day Marks the Longest Struggle

By Mark Applegate

Welcome to my virtual luminary page

I’m participating in The Longest Day to fundraise for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. In honor of the winter solstice on December 21, I created a luminary to shine a light on the darkness of Alzheimer’s.

Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, including more than 6 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 11 million friends and family members are providing their care. We have over 120,000 struggling in Missouri alone! We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise. Please support me in the fight to end Alzheimer’s with a donation today. Thank you so much!

My mom has fought this disease mightily since that day in 2009 when the doctor noted, almost as an aside, that she had "a mild case of dementia". Calling it a mild case turned out to be the understatement of the century. Today we fight for a cure for a disease that has left my mom a shadow of herself. She is still a beautiful , wonderful, kind woman, but one that was broken by this disease. I raise funds for a cure and to shine the light on this disease so that some sweet day nobody has to face the battle mom has waged for the last 14 years.. Please join my team or start your own
