Milvia Ramona Moreno (née Vivanco Suárez), a cherished matriarch whose laughter filled every room and whose boundless love shaped generations, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 85.
Milvia was born on August 31, 1940, in the small town of Gaspar in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. The youngest of six children, she was the life of the party from the very beginning. Raised in a close knit rural community, Milvia grew up surrounded by family, music, faith, and the vibrant culture of the Cuban countryside. A gifted dancer and lover of classic Cuban rhythms, she carried that joyful spirit with her throughout her life.
In December 1963, she married her husband of 54 years, José Manuel Moreno, in Camagüey, Cuba, beginning a partnership filled with resilience, devotion, and adventure. In August 1968, the couple took the Freedom Flights to the United States with their infant son, José Julián, leaving behind their family and everything they had known in search of a better future. They began their new life in the Bronx before eventually settling in Port Chester, New York.
Milvia quickly became known for her entrepreneurial spirit. While raising her children, she sold clothing and makeup from her home, combining her love of fashion with her natural ability to connect with people. She was known for her sharp wit, booming laughter, and generous hospitality. Whether through dancing, cooking, or hosting unforgettable gatherings, Milvia had a gift for bringing people together.
In 1984, the family relocated to Kissimmee, Florida, which at the time was still a very rural area. There, Milvia and José built their American dream home, famously designing it together on a simple dinner napkin. The home became the heart of countless celebrations and remained the place they loved most for the rest of their lives.
Milvia’s deep Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, and her strength, perseverance, and love for family shaped the generations that followed.
In 2022, Milvia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She faced the illness with bravery for several years before her peaceful passing on March 3, 2026.
Milvia leaves behind her loving children, José Julián Moreno and Milvia Estela Fisher; her son in law, Rob Fisher; her cherished grandchildren, Robert Fisher and Milvia Elizabeth Fisher; her nephews, Louis Perego Moreno and Albert Cockerham; and her two beloved granddogs, Gaspar and Rommy.
Her legacy lives on in the music she loved, the meals she shared, the stories she told, and the laughter she brought to every gathering.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations may be made in Milvia’s honor to support Alzheimer’s research and services for those affected by the disease.
