In Memory of John W. Finney Jr.

A Strong Man.....

John Finney was always strong & the person everyone leaned on—the one who somehow made life feel steady no matter what was happening around us. He was our “rock” and a pillar of strength. Watching him face Alzheimer’s was like watching that strength slowly slip away, little by little. At first, it was small things, forgotten names, dates, repeated questions, moments we brushed off as normal aging. But over time, those moments became our new reality. Conversations grew repetitious. Memories we once shared so easily became harder for him to reach and he seemed more comfortable remembering the past and unable to hold on to the present. Fortunately, he didn’t forget who we were, he just didn’t remember that he may have just seen us the day before, but he was always happy when we showed up. Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed—it reshapes an entire family. It’s in the quiet heartbreak of seeing your loved one no longer the strong one. It’s in the role reversals, where the person who once cared for you now needs help with the simplest daily tasks. It’s in the emotional weight of holding onto who they were, while learning to love who they are becoming. But even in the hardest moments, there is still love. There are still glimpses of his smile, flashes of recognition, and the same warmth that has always defined him. Those moments remind us that he is still here, even as the disease progresses.
We are sharing our story not just to ask for support, but to raise awareness about the impact of Alzheimer’s on families like ours. Every contribution helps support research and bring hope to others walking this same difficult path.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for standing with us in this fight. A future without Alzheimer's is out there. Let's get there, together.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
