I'm running in honor of my Dad, Dr K!
My dad was smart. His race distance of choice: 100 meters. Self-trained, on tracks in Baghdad in the 1960s, fast enough to qualify for the 1968 Olympics before Iraq pulled out for political reasons. His personal best was 10.4 seconds.
This November, I'm running 422 times my Dad's distance of choice in his honor with Team ALZ.
We lost him to Alzheimer's in 2024. It's a cruel disease that impacts far too many families. I'm proud to be running with Team ALZ and to raise awareness and money (plz donate!) for a cause that means a lot to me and my family.
I also have some unfinished business with this course. In 2018, during my first marathon, I went out way too fast, bonked on the Queensboro Bridge, and limped my way through Central Park (after a few medical tent stints). This time I'm going the distance, upright, and hopefully with a new PR.

Best of luck and cheers to supporting a great cause. My grandfather passed from Alzheimer’s a few years ago. He was a brilliant scientist, and in a tribute to him someone once said “the sharpest minds are often the most brittle”. I really enjoyed reading the words you wrote about your dad, it sounds like he was an incredible man.
