My Story — In Honor of My Mother

In 2016, my mother suffered a stroke and two heart attacks. Soon after, she was diagnosed with dementia.
Watching her change, fade, and struggle through something none of us were prepared for was one of the hardest experiences of my life.

My mother passed away in 2019, but her influence, her spirit, and her love continue to shape every part of who I am.

She is the reason I became a perfumer.

As a child, I used to explore her fragrance collection… tiny glass bottles, atomizers, perfumes she cherished and saved for special moments. That’s where my love for scent began. My mother adored perfume. It was her way of expressing herself, of marking memories, and of celebrating life.

When dementia began taking her memories, I made it my mission to try to bring some of them back even if only for moments at a time.

I started reintroducing her to the perfumes she had worn throughout her life.
And something beautiful happened.

There were moments when the scent of a fragrance she loved would reach her, and she would remember. She would look at me and know me again. She would smile and suddenly become herself... the mother who raised me, laughed with me, taught me, loved me.

That is the power of scent.
It carries our stories.
It holds our memories when our minds can’t.

Those moments of connection even fleeting are memories I will carry for the rest of my life. They are the reason I support the Alzheimer’s Association today.

This fundraiser is not only to honor my mother, but to support every family who is navigating through this devastating disease. Dementia affects more than just the person diagnosed it affects everyone who loves them. No one should face it alone.

As a perfumer and founder of House of Oubliette, I will be donating 10% of all proceeds from my 30ml fragrances to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.

It means the world to me and it honors the woman who inspired my passion, my creativity, and my heart.
