I'm Running for Uncle Steven: 26.2 Miles for a Future Without Dementia
On November 1, 2026, I’ll be running the TCS New York City Marathon with Team ALZ in honor of my Uncle Steven Weissman, who passed away in July 2024 after battling Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
Steven was one of the smartest and wittiest people I’ve ever known. He was a powerhouse attorney, an entrepreneurial spirit behind multiple inventions, a fierce advocate for better healthcare, and most importantly, a devoted husband, father, uncle, and “Poppy.”
Uncle Steven was also the picture of health. A Miami native, he lived an incredibly active life filled with running, biking, rollerblading, swimming, CrossFit, Tough Mudders, and any challenge he could take on. One of the things we shared was running. In fact, Steven and I are the only two people in our family who have completed a full marathon.
In 2024, I dedicated my Berlin and Chicago Marathons to Steven, running with his name written on my leg and a black heart to carry him with me through every mile.
Running the NYC Marathon with Team ALZ will allow me to continue honoring Steven’s memory while supporting an organization committed to advancing awareness, research, education, and support for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, including Frontotemporal Dementia. While Steven’s diagnosis was not Alzheimer’s, these diseases are part of a larger group of neurodegenerative conditions that impact individuals and families in devastating ways. Research into one area often helps advance our understanding of others, and increased awareness and resources are critical for every family navigating these diagnoses.
For families facing dementia in any form, the journey can feel incredibly isolating and overwhelming. Organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association provide essential education, advocacy, resources, and support while helping shine a light on these diseases and bringing hope to the families impacted by them.
I would be honored to run 26.2 miles through New York City in my Uncle Steven’s memory, carrying his heart and spirit with me while helping raise awareness and support for families facing Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's or any other neurodegenerative conditions.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Whether you donate, share this page, or cheer me on along the route, your support helps make every mile matter.

Jillian
