A Tribute to Ronald DeChant — Committed to Ending Alzheimer’s
Honoring Ron means continuing the work he cared deeply about.
Ron was a brilliant man, curious, thoughtful, and deeply engaged with the world around him. His early Alzheimer’s diagnosis was devastating, not only for him, but for all who loved him. We saw firsthand how this disease slowly takes so much, impacting not just the individual, but everyone around them.
Even in the face of that reality, Ron met Alzheimer’s with remarkable courage and purpose. He volunteered for clinical trials at the Cleveland Clinic and used his voice to share his story with media outlets, elected officials, and others because he believed that meaningful change has to start somewhere. That was the kind of person Ron was: someone who chose to speak up, advocate for others, and turn his own experience into hope for those facing the same battle. He was determined to do anything he could to help find a cure, so that no one else would have to endure what he did.
While that cure has not yet been found, donations in Ron’s honor are a meaningful way to continue that mission. Even in passing, he chose to keep giving by donating his body to science at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in hopes of advancing research.
In honor of Ronald DeChant, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Supporting this cause helps carry forward Ron’s legacy of compassion, strength, and hope, and brings us one step closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.
