NYC Marathon

Why I am Running

This November, I will be running the TCS New York City Marathon with Team ALZ in honor of my grandpa, who passed away from Alzheimer's in 2024.

My grandpa lived an extraordinary life. He served as a Major in the Vietnamese Army and partnered with the United States to fight and protect his country during the Vietnam War. After the war ended, he endured years as a prisoner of war but still, he never stopped fighting and eventually made his way to the United States. He built a quiet, humble life, working as a janitor until he retired. He never complained nor did he ever quit. When things got hard, he pushed forward. Even in his later years, you could find him at the gym lifting weights. That same drive and discipline never left him.

That is the man I am running for.

Alzheimer's does not discriminate. It takes people from us slowly, and it took my grandpa in a way that no one who knew him deserved to witness. More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's today. We have to do better.

Every mile I run is for him. Every dollar raised goes directly to the Alzheimer's Association to fund research, advance care, and one day find a cure.

If my grandpa could endure what he endured with grace and grit, I can run 26.2 miles in my favorite city in the world. Please consider supporting me.

Kevin, I was very touched by your description of your grandfather, and I'm proud of the man you've become. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease that affects so many families, and we must continue to seek a cure. Thank you for running, and I send you love and strength.
