Living Eulogy
by Kurt Michaels
Nothing’s left but the time that remains
The life he knew is all but gone
Little makes sense for him anymore
He’s in the coda of his song
Where did the time go?
And things he used to know
Barely a trace of the man he was
Few memories of his past
He can’t remember much anymore
And of his time he is the last
Sitting in his chair
All he can do is stare
Where did his mind go?
And what does he see?
Bang the drum slowly for
His living eulogy
Living long’s a wish that many share
Not knowing what that brings
His family faces so much unknown
But there’s still joy in simple things
Getting through each day
Love will find a way
Circling the wagons
And where will it lead?
Bang the drum slowly for
His living eulogy
(SOLO)
How do I tell him that our time is short
His care’s no longer in our hands
It’s getting harder to keep him safe
Despite our efforts and our plans
What will the end bring
And what’ll be the song we’ll sing?
Where did his mind go?
And what does he see?
Bang the drum slowly for
His living eulogy
Where will it take him?
And the sadness we’ll see
Bang the drum slowly for
His living eulogy
After losing my loved one to Alzheimer's, I knew I couldn't just stand by. I wanted to honor their memory in a way that would make a difference. That's why I joined the fight to end this devastating disease by creating this tribute page in their name.
By taking this step, I'm raising funds to support the critical work of the Alzheimer's Association: providing care and support for families, advancing promising research and offering a lifeline through their free 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900). Every dollar raised helps ensure that no one faces Alzheimer's alone.
I'd be so grateful if you would make a memorial gift in their name. It would mean a lot to me and those facing this relentless disease.
A future without Alzheimer's is out there. Let's get there, together.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
