In Loving Memory of Gloria Hetmer

Gloria Jean Hetmer (Priest), affectionately known to many as "Corky," passed away on February 2, 2026, in Forney, Texas, at the age of 80. Her passing marks the end of a life filled with compassion, service, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Gloria became a Christian at the age of 45 while living in Albuquerque, New Mexico—a spiritual turning point that deeply influenced the rest of her life. Upon returning to Texas with her husband Albert, she became an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Terrell. Together, Gloria and Albert were familiar faces at the church doors, greeting congregants with warmth and kindness. They volunteered regularly and were especially devoted to the annual Christmas presentation of "Walk With the Wisemen," a cherished tradition that brought joy to many.

Her heart for service was evident in every aspect of her life. Gloria devoted much of her time to the Share Center in Terrell, offering support and compassion to those in need. She found joy in connecting with people who came seeking assistance and made it her mission to ensure they received help with dignity and care.

Gloria also found community and friendship through her involvement with the local Silver Sneakers group. She cherished the camaraderie and conversations shared during their gatherings.

She was a devoted wife to Albert Hetmer for 43 years until his passing in 2011. Together they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect. Gloria was a loving mother to her two children and proudly embraced her role as “Mimmie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy; she spoke often of their accomplishments and loved each one deeply.

Her passing was due to complications from late-stage Alzheimer’s disease—a cruel illness that dimmed but never extinguished the light she brought into the world. Gloria's legacy lives on through the lives she touched with her kindness, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of others.

Though Gloria may no longer walk among us, her spirit endures—in every act of kindness inspired by her example and every memory cherished by those who loved her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

As a family we watched my mother battle and finally succumb to the complications caused by Alzheimer’s and we knew we could not stand by and do something to help fight this debilitating disease. That’s why we joined the fight to end this devastating disease and set up this memorial in honor of my mother.
