Why I'm Running
When my grandparents immigrated to the United States in the 1950’s, they arrived by boat in New York Harbor. They then spent the rest of their lives as pillars of the Irish American community in Queens, where their kitchen table was always surrounded by friends and full of laughter. As they got sick, the laughter faded but the visitors kept coming to make sure they were not alone in their illness.
My grandparents lived for their faith, family, and friends. They also deeply loved their chosen home, New York. I am running the NYC marathon to honor my grandparents’ legacy, and to raise money for research and support for other families affected by this cruel disease.
