Obituary
George W. Helmer Jr., age 81, of Williamstown, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on June 18th, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he lived in Williamstown since 1965.
George spent his years building a life defined as much by heart as by hard work. He spent his early days in the automotive trade, then, a small contracting company with his father-in-law, and later, founded G. Helmer Construction Company alongside his wife and forever partner, Carolann. George helped lay the literal foundation beneath New Jersey’s roads, bridges, and water systems. Yet, what he built mattered less to him than who in life he built it with.
George was a member of the Williamstown Lodge #166 F&AM. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and a connoisseur of Philly soft pretzels. Above all, George cherished his family, finding his greatest joy in the time spent surrounded by those he loved. He led his life with quiet humility, unwavering integrity, and a generosity of spirit that shaped everyone who knew him.
Beloved husband of Carolann J. Helmer (née Fluharty). Devoted father of Michelle L. Dopke (Stephen) and George D. Helmer (Kellene). Loving grandfather of Justin, David, Dylan, and Kayla. He leaves behind family and friends whose lives he touched and rejoins those who preceded him in death.
In accordance with George’s wishes, services will take place privately.
The family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in George’s memory. Visit George’s Tribute Page to give directly.
