In Loving Memory of Despina September 30, 2026
On September 30, 2026, we lost our beloved Despina after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease that lasted more than eight years.
To know Despina was to know someone who spent her life putting others before herself. She was the kind of person who cared about the needs of the people around her before thinking about her own. Her love was shown through what she did for others, through the sacrifices she made, and through the countless ways she made sure the people she loved were taken care of.
For more than eight years, she fought an incredibly cruel disease. Alzheimer’s slowly takes away so much from a person: memories, independence, recognition, and pieces of the life they built. It is an awful disease, not only for the person suffering from it, but for the family who has to watch someone they love gradually change in front of them.
But Alzheimer’s could never erase who Despina truly was.It could not erase the love she gave throughout her life. It could not erase the sacrifices she made for her family. It could not erase the lives she touched, the memories she created, or the person she was before this disease entered her life.For more than eight years, she fought.
And through all of it, the love her family had for her remained.
We will not remember Despina for Alzheimer’s. We will remember her for the life she lived before it, for her selflessness, her strength, her kindness, and most importantly, for the love she gave so freely to others.
Alzheimer’s may have taken pieces of her memory, but it can never take away ours.
We will carry those memories for her.Rest in peace, Despina.
