In Memory of Our Neighbor & Friend, Chet Long 💜
Our Laurelwood POD 38 family is deeply saddened by the loss of our neighbor and friend, Chet Long, who passed away on September 13, 2026.Chet and his wife, Laurie, made their home here in Sun City Peachtree, where retirement gave Chet the opportunity to enjoy the things—and the people—he loved. Many of us knew Chet through the neighborhood, but anyone who spent time with him quickly learned about two of his great passions: Alabama football and bowling.A lifelong Alabama fan, Chet loved the Crimson Tide and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. Roll Tide! He was equally at home at the bowling alley. As a member of the Alley Gators, Chet was a valued part of the team and such an asset—not simply for what he contributed on the lanes, but for the friendship and camaraderie he brought with him.But the most important part of Chet's life was his family. He was a beloved husband to Laurie, his partner, best friend, and the love of his life. He was a devoted father to his sons, Bryan and Justin, and loved his daughters-in-law, Jessica and Kelsey, and his grandson, Lennon. His family was his greatest legacy.Chet was also proud of his Mobile, Alabama roots and loved the culture and traditions of his hometown—especially Mardi Gras.Alzheimer's may have changed Chet's final years, but it could never erase the life he lived, the people he loved, or the memories he created. Those memories remain with Laurie, his family, his Alley Gators teammates, and all of us who were fortunate enough to call him our neighbor and friend. Our hearts are especially with Laurie, who lovingly cared for Chet throughout his illness. We hope she knows that she is surrounded by a POD 38 family that loves her and will continue to be here for her in the days ahead.Rest peacefully, Chet. You will be missed. And one final time for you—ROLL TIDE! ❤️🐘Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Hugs and prayers for the family
