Susan "Sue" Edwards

Susan Jane Edwards January 23, 1943 – September 9, 2026 Susan Jane Edwards, 83, of Rockville Centre and Greenport, New York, passed away peacefully in her home on September 9, 2026. Susan was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Richard Theo Edwards and Jane Kelly Edwards. She later moved to Freeport, New York, where she attended Freeport High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from St. John's University and her master's degree from Hofstra University. Susan spent 30 years teaching fifth and sixth grade at Atkinson School in Freeport, where her passion for teaching and her love of mathematics inspired generations of students. Above all else, Susan loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was the mother of three daughters: Suzanne Delane (Kevin), Jeanne Frost, and Michelle McCarthy (Brian), and the proud grandmother to Jordan, Michelle, Kelly (Justin), Sam (Eric), Ryan (Spencer), KJ, Kian, Riley, and Justin. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Edwards Delsman and brother-in-law Alan Delsman; her niece Elizabeth Hunter and nephew Christopher Delsman; and her niece Kathleen Hogan and nephew Gerard Frost Jr. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Richard "Ricky" Edwards. Susan loved family, teaching, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and was always ready to enjoy a good dessert or a Haggen Daz bar. She treasured the friendships she built through her decades-long book group and bridge club, whose members remained an important part of her life throughout the years. Some of Susan's happiest moments were spent in Greenport at Sandy Beach, where she loved swimming and floating peacefully in the bay. Whether surrounded by family and friends or simply enjoying the beauty of the water, Sandy Beach was one of her favorite places and brought her great peace and joy. Susan leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, dear friends who enriched her life, and countless memories that will continue to be shared for generations. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass at St. Agnes Cathedral on Tuesday, September 15th at 10:45am in Rockville Centre.
