I'm fundraising for...
I'm running the NYC Marathon for the Alzheimer's Association. This organization supports research and care for people with Alzheimer’s and all other dementias. This is personal to me. I'm running for my aunt and the rest of my family, who have learned firsthand how much this disease takes, not just from the person who has it, but from everyone who loves them.
Black Americans are almost twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's as White Americans, and Latino Americans are about 1.5 times as likely, yet these communities are less likely to be diagnosed early or have access to specialized care. Moreover, behind every person with this disease is a caregiver holding it together with little support and no pay.
The Alzheimer's Association also runs a free 24/7 helpline and provides support groups, education, and care planning for families like mine while also advocating for policy changes and health equity. Every dollar you give goes straight to their work. My goal is $5,000, and I can't get there alone. Here's how you can help:
- Donate. Any amount gets me closer to my $5,000 goal and funds real research and care.
- Raise awareness. Follow or share the Alzheimer's Association's page or share this fundraiser with someone in your network.
- Check on a caregiver. If you know someone caring for a family member with Alzheimer's or dementia, send a text, bring a meal, or offer an afternoon of help. It matters more than they'll say.
