I'm fundraising for...
My story is a very personal one. I am running the NYC Marathon in honor of my grandfather, Nathan Krugman, and the incredible perseverance he showed throughout his life.
His life started in Poland, and at just 18, Nazi Germany invaded his home country. He was sent to a work camp, tragically losing his mother Leje and younger brother Joseph. Defying the odds, he escaped the camp and survived by hiding on a potato farm. After the war, he made his way to Massachusetts with his wife Anne, arriving with nothing. He started working at a local chemical manufacturing plant while learning English and, through sheer grit, he eventually ended up purchasing the company. He never let hardship dictate his character; he chose kindness and strength instead, raising five kids and playing an instrumental role in the lives of all his grandchildren.
Later in life, we all watched what this awful disease can do to such an incredible person. A disease like Alzheimer's does not only affect one person. It takes a toll on everyone in its proximity. I watched as those I hold closest in my life had to come to grips with this new reality, and seeing that lifetime of tenacity eroded was heartbreaking for our entire family.
I believe in community. I believe in channeling my grandfather's grit into a tool for change.
It is not often that you are presented with a tangible way to make a difference in someone else's life. This is one of those opportunities. Every dollar raised goes directly toward research and support services, helping ensure that other families and loved ones do not have to endure this cruel illness.
Please join me in supporting the Alzheimer's Association. Your donation directly fuels the vital research, care, and family support programs we desperately need, helping us fight for a future where no other family has to lose a loved one to this disease.
