OWaLz was created to honor Consuelo "Connie" Guerrero, a.k.a Nannie, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease back in 1993. Connie's loved ones watched as the disease took her memory, and caused her to slowly fade away, until she passed in 2000.  

Over the years the owl has become a symbol that reminds us of Connie. We have owls everywhere, and wanted to spread the owl love while simultaneously raising money to help find a cure, by supporting the Alzheimer's Association by "Do(ing) What We Love" OWL style. 

Join us in spreading the owl love by purchasing a hand-painted ceramic owl. Each owl is painted with a color symbolic to the Alzheimer's Association by someone who loved Connie. 

Every owl purchased represents a step forward in the fight against Alzheimer's, bringing us closer to a world where future generations won't have to endure the same prognosis that Connie faced. 

The backstory on the colors...
The Walk to End Alzheimer's features a Promise Garden, which is a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden Flowers represent participants’ connection to Alzheimer’s — their reasons to end the disease.

Blue: Someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Purple: An individual who has lost someone to the disease.

Yellow: A person who is currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.

Orange: A participant who supports the cause and the
Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementia®.

Each Walk also features one White flower that symbolizes the hope we have for a future world without Alzheimer's. 

We have chosen to paint the OWaLz these colors in support of the Alzheimer's Association, however, you do not need to choose an OWaLz based on which describes you! Feel free to pick your favorite color, the one you think is the cutest, or roll the dice and let us surprise you!

The above event (“Event”) is a third-party fundraiser being held for the Alzheimer’s Association ("Association"). These sponsorships only apply to the Event. 100% of the fee that a donor pays for a listed sponsorship package becomes a non-refundable, direct donation to the Association, for which the Association will issue the donor a receipt. Other than this donation, the donor’s sponsorship of the Event creates no relationship of any kind between the Association and the donor; the Association will provide no goods or services to the donor for the donation.

The Event is not organized, managed or operated by the Association; it is organized, managed and operated by the noted fundraiser. Any recognition, benefits or promotional value associated with a sponsorship package is the sole responsibility of the fundraiser, and questions, arrangements or concerns regarding them are between the fundraiser and donor.
