I am walking to honor Roderick Day and Domenica Hurley. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association has mobilized millions through the Memory Walk®, and continues that legacy today with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. On Sunday, October 26th, my 9-year-old daughter Sofia and I will join my company, athenahealth, for this year’s walk in Cambridge, MA. There are more than 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s. Like so many, this disease has touched my life personally. My husband’s grandmother, Domenica "Mimi" Hurley, lost her battle in 2007. More recently, a dear friend and colleague, Kim Moody, is walking through this journey alongside her father, Roderick, who is currently fighting Alzheimer’s. Sofia and I will walk to honor Mimi’s memory and to stand beside Roderick, Kim, and the millions of families who face this heartbreaking disease every day. With Kim’s permission, we are collecting donations that go directly to Alzheimer’s research.
