About washburn challenge

The Washburn Challenge is part of Do What You Love to End ALZ, a signature fundraising event of the Alzheimer’s Association, to support the pursuit of legislative initiatives on behalf of those affected, invest in research to find a cure, draw attention to Alzheimer's and dementia, and provide support to those afflicted by this disease as well as their caregivers. Together we'll bike 22 miles and kayak 6 miles in the fight to #ENDALZ. We are so grateful for this community and the continued enthusiasm and support of the Washburn Challenge. So many loves ones have been affected, but hope is on the horizon, primarily because of organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association.

To raise awareness and vital funding for care, support and research efforts to #ENDALZ

celebrate!

Together we'll celebrate the impact we're making with great food and company in Falmouth.

BIKE RIDE:
We’ll start the day off with a fun 22-mile bike ride along the scenic Shining Sea Bike Path (America's first Rail Trail) from North Falmouth to Woods Hole and back. As it's not a race, riders are welcome to start between 8:00 and 9:00am. Bikers should start the rail trail no later then 9:00am so they can get back to the house to refresh and grab a quick lunch.

KAYAK LAUNCH
The kayaks will launch around noon from the “Bluff House” for a 6-mile paddle around Washburn's Island and back.  Washburn's Island is a beautiful state park in the middle of Waquoit Bay and one of the prettiest places on all of Cape Cod. It’s where my sister and I have many memories from growing up, and a part of the inspiration for this event!

FUNDRAISER CELEBRATION:
Once the kayaker's return we will start the celebration! We will have an "Alzheimer's Shucks" oyster bar provided by Island Creek Oyster Co., Longest Day Lager provided by Moby Dick Brewing Co., wine selection provided by Cape Cod Winery, and live entertainment that will take us into the early evening.
