Why I Fight

Friday 13th Mar

I grew up never knowing a world without Alzheimer’s, and in 2015 I learned why. My family carries a genetic mutation that gives each person in my mother’s generation a 50/50 chance of developing Alzheimer’s by age 62. In 2016 we began participating in The Longest Day and clinical trials, the first time we finally had something we could do to fight back, whether by raising funds or contributing to research.

This year, inspired by the “Do What You Love to End ALZ” theme, I’m organizing a community grass volleyball tournament. It’s a chance to come together, play, and channel our energy into raising funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. My hope is that a day of joy and connection can help move us closer to a future without this disease.
