In an effort to raise Alzheimer's awareness, and to generate donations for research, I will again be participating in 2026, in what is now known as Do What You Love to End ALZ (formally known as The Longest Day). It's almost time for Common Craig's 5th Annual Longest Day Movie Marathon. Yes, the "longest day" is actually June 21st, this year, but my movie marathon will be June 23rd. See? Flexibility, as well. You do your longest day when you have time. Do What You Love to End ALZ is an amazing fundraiser!

I will again be celebrating the careers of filmmakers we've lost, and those currently living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, by watching their performances and works in a Longest Day Movie Marathon format. The first year I did watch movies for 24 hours, but I have since scaled things back. The marathon is set to begin at around 8 am on Tuesday, June 23rd, running until the 9th movie ends.

I do use my movie podcast, A Cure for the Common Craig, and its social media accounts, to try to spread the word about my participation in the fundraiser. As a result, I try my best to choose movies based on something that we would possibly cover on the podcast. Horror options are getting slimmer, so this year is mostly sci-fi, action, and psychological drama movies.

Are you ready for the list of movies for this year? You'd better believe you are!

1. Opening Night (1977) - star, Gena Rowlands
2. The Quick and the Dead (1995) - star, Gene Hackman
3. The Prowler (1951) - star, Evelyn Keyes
4. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) - stars, James Doohan & Nichelle Nichols
5. Death Wish (1974) - star, Charles Bronson
6. Looper (2012) - star, Bruce Willis
7. Willow (1988) - star, Jean Marsh
8. Enemy Mine (1985) - star, Louis Gossett Jr.
9. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - star, James Stewart

Now, I'm not going to do anything crazy, like livestreaming myself watching these movies. But I do plan to check-in on social media at least once per movie from the comfort of my home, so you can track my progress and make sure that I'm not just sleeping half the day.

Stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer's and make a donation today, to join me in helping the Alzheimer's Association provide their support to all those facing the disease. Thank you!
