My Updates

My Yoga Event is this Sunday!!!!

Thursday 25th Jun
Hello again!
I am excited to host the Yoga to End ALZ event this Sunday, June 28 at my home in Redmond. The event will begin at noon and end at 2:00 pm. Please join Lindsey and I for some guided yoga practice in celebration of loved ones who have suffered or are still suffering from Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.

There will be purple and white balloons at the bottom of Quince Lane and Helmholtz, as well as up that road to lead you to my home. There is no expectation of you to participate in the yoga practice, or the fundraiser. My hope is that this event will honor the lives of Alzheimer's patients past, present, and future.

Thank you to all who have donated to the Alzheimer's Association. It is greatly appreciated.

Love,
Gayle

Why Yoga?

Tuesday 16th Jun
You may wonder why I chose to host a yoga practice for my "Do What You Love to End ALZ" in-person event. Well....part of the reason is that I literally LOVE practicing yoga. I began about four years ago at the urging of my dear friend Karen, to attend yoga classes at Lovebird Yoga in downtown Redmond. Before I attended my first class, I was certain that I wouldn't be able to keep up, and I wasn't. But here's the thing: it didn't matter to anyone except me! I have learned over the years that what is truly important is showing up for myself, and I am so thankful to Karen for encouraging me to go with her.
I really do love yoga, but why? There are so many benefits to practicing yoga that this post would become a short novel if I were to write them all, but please know that the benefits are not simply physical. Yoga enhances the whole person. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Although, I don't know for certain, it would be my guess that yoga is a great way to keep our brains healthy, as well. I do know, however, that my life has been so much fuller and richer because of the practice of yoga and that is why I chose to have yoga practice as my theme for this fundraiser.
I hope you will consider joining us at the in-person event at my home on June 28 from 12 - 2 pm. Drop in and leave when you need to. All are welcome, and the choice is yours whether or not to participate. My address is 4603 NW Quince Lane in Redmond, OR. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions. Thank you to those of you who have donated! It is so very much appreciated.

Information from the Alzheimer's Association Website

Thursday 4th Jun
Some of you may wonder what the funds are used for from fundraising efforts like this Do What You Love to End ALZ.

According to the Alzheimer's Association website, donations are used to fund the following:

*To advance understanding of Alzheimer's and dementia
*To identify new treatment strategies
*To improve care and support for people with dementia and their families
*To further knowledge of brain health and disease prevention

Once again, thank you to all of you have donated to this worthy cause.

With gratitude,

Gayle

More of the 'Why.'

Sunday 31st May

Ten years ago, I took part in training to become a volunteer for Hospice of Redmond, now known as Clear Path Healthcare. I have had a variety of duties, but visiting with patients is what I LOVE the most, especially those afflicted with dementia or Alzheimer's. They all have a huge piece of my heart. About three years ago, I attended an amazing training session which was presented by the Alzheimer's Association and one of the presenters shared a fundraising program called "Do what you Love to end ALZ." A big part of what prompted me to get this fundraiser off the ground were the patients I had visited. Their stories and lives are what inspired me to take the steps to raise funds to help end this devastating disease. I would also like to put a plug in for becoming a hospice volunteer, and to go one step further, if you live in Central Oregon, to volunteer specifically for Clear Path Health Care. You won't regret it, I promise!

A big thank you to those of you who have already donated! It is so much appreciated!

❤️ Gayle

Welcome to my Do What you Love to End Alzheimer's Fundraising Page

Wednesday 27th May
Welcome everyone to my very first Alzheimer's Fundraising event, and thank you for reading my page.
I am raising awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association in order to honor and celebrate the people who I have known and those who are unknown to me, but mostly in honor of my wonderful mother who passed away in January 2007. I celebrate her for the incredible woman she was. Even in illness, my mother was the most loving and kind soul I have ever known. No matter how ill she was, she always had positive words for all. The diagnosis of dementia was difficult for my dad to navigate, so I became the one to take mom to her doctor visits. It broke my heart when she would look to me to help her answer the doctor's questions. Through it all, her faith in God kept a smile on her face and a song in her heart.
I am hosting an in-person yoga practice at our home in Redmond, Oregon, for which the details are on my page. In short, if you  choose to donate, there are several different ways to do so: one is simply click the donate button on my page and donate any amount. Another way is to attend the open to all levels yoga practice at my house with no pressure at all to participate!  The yoga practice will be offered in short segments by Lindsey Peck, a yoga guide at Lovebird Yoga in Redmond, Oregon. You are welcome to drop in, stay awhile, participate in the yoga practice on the lawn, or on your own mat, or in a chair, or not at all. I will provide light snacks and drinks, and a place to remember and celebrate all Alzheimer's patients, past, present, and future. I hope you will join me in this humble effort to end Alzheimer's disease. Thank you in advance.
