What the Event is About

Wednesday 22nd Jul
Interactive Community Conversation Offers Practical Communication Tools, Connection, and Support for Caregivers
Burlington, VT – Home Care Assistance, in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association Vermont Chapter, invites family caregivers, professional caregivers, and community members to participate in Improv for Caregivers, a unique and engaging community conversation taking place on Tuesday, August 25 at the Main Street Landing Film House in Burlington.
Designed to empower caregivers through connection, creativity, and practical skill-building, "Improv for Caregivers" uses improv-based activities to help participants strengthen communication strategies when interacting with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Facilitator, Cathy Braxton of Improve 4 Caregivers, will focus on fostering empathy, dignity, respect, and meaningful engagement while creating opportunities for caregivers to connect and support one another.
Two 90-minute sessions will be offered:
  • 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Family and Friend Caregivers
  • 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Professional Caregivers (CEUs available for an additional charge)
A reception open to all participants will be held in the Lake View Lobby from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., providing additional networking and community-building opportunities.
"Caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging, and meaningful communication is one of the most important tools caregivers can develop," said Jazmin Ferrari, Development Manager. "This event offers a welcoming environment where participants can learn practical techniques, build confidence, and connect with others who understand the caregiving journey."
Through interactive exercises and guided activities, attendees will gain valuable insights into communicating with people living with dementia while also expanding their support networks and discovering local resources available to caregivers and families.
Registration is $10 per person. To register, email Jazmin Ferrari at jaferrari@alz.org.
