Celebrate Ivan's birthday!
This year, as Ivan celebrates his 40th birthday, he wants to honor the man who helped shape his life — his grandfather, Enmar. Instead of gifts, Ivan hopes to celebrate Enmar’s legacy through a contribution to Alzheimer’s research and awareness, in honor of a man whose strength, wisdom, and love left a permanent mark on everyone around him.
Enmar’s life was defined by resilience. During World War II, he survived horrors that few could imagine. More than twenty members of his family were lost during the Holocaust, yet Enmar carried on with courage and determination. He rebuilt a life from tragedy, helped create opportunities for future generations, and played a major role in helping the family eventually come to the United States in search of a better future.
He believed deeply in hard work, discipline, education, and family. He loved learning English, loved teaching, and inspired everyone around him to keep pushing forward no matter how difficult life became. He taught his grandchildren not only how to play chess, but how to think carefully, stay patient, and approach life strategically. To Ivan, he taught simple lessons that became lifelong memories — how to tie shoes, how to tell time, and how to carry yourself with confidence and determination.
Enmar loved his country house and garden, where countless family memories were made. Warm summer nights there became magical moments for Ivan, especially when his grandfather and mother would arrive together after work. Ivan would wait excitedly for them, knowing the evening would be filled with laughter, stories, warmth, and family. Those memories became part of the foundation of who he is today.
Even later in life, Enmar continued to inspire everyone around him with his discipline and strength. Every day he did push-ups and pull-ups, proving that consistency and perseverance mattered. He lived through action, not words.
And even when Alzheimer’s entered his life, the fight was never lost.
Because the disease could never take away the impact he made, the values he passed down, or the love he gave his family. It could never erase the survivor, the teacher, the grandfather, the mentor, or the example he set for generations to come. His legacy remained stronger than the illness itself.
For Ivan, honoring Enmar on his 40th birthday is about more than remembering the past — it is about carrying forward everything Enmar stood for: resilience, family, hard work, strength, kindness, and hope. Through this contribution to Alzheimer’s research, Ivan hopes to honor a man whose spirit continues to inspire his family every single day.
