Why We Do What We Love to End ALZ
"Parrot Heads" are fans of the late singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett. In 1989, the energy of Jimmy's concerts and his belief in "noblesse oblige" — to give back if you’re lucky enough — was harnessed, and our Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHIP) Organization was born. We now have 185+ Parrot Head Clubs in the USA.
In 1994, Jimmy's father, James Delaney (JD) Buffett, Jr., was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and passed away at age 83 in May of 2003. This deeply personal experience led many of our Parrot Head Clubs to join the fight against Alzheimer's. We continue to honor JD as we see the devastating impact of this disease within our own communities. This shared experience fuels our commitment to making a difference.
Since 2008, PHCs have participated in the Walks To End Alzheimer's® across the country. We are very excited to now also support Do What You Love to End Alz®. Do What You Love to End ALZ makes it easy to make a difference. It’s simple, flexible and starts with you — doing something you love and turning it into a fundraiser to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. There’s no limit to what we can do! Our clubs engage in fundraising activities from golf to pickleball, card games, parties, and more to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association®. Together, we shine a light on Alzheimer's, leaving this world a little better than we found it!
We invite everyone to join us as we Party With A Purpose for Alzheimer's by signing up for Do What You Love to End Alz and donating to a participating chapter team today. Together, we can make a difference and have a great time doing it.
