Play It Forward: Mahjong, Community, and Giving Back

On April 19, Rusted Arrow Mercantile is proud to host Play It Forward, a Mahjong Open Play benefit supporting the Alzheimer’s Association at The Kennedy in downtown Pensacola.

This special event brings together our growing Mahjong community for an afternoon centered around connection, purpose and generosity. Guests will enjoy guided Mahjong open play, light bites and drinks, curated welcome swag bags and an exciting raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses, all while raising meaningful funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Mahjong has become more than just a game for many in our community. It has created friendships, sparked new traditions and provided a welcoming space for people to gather and learn something new together. Play It Forward is an opportunity to take that spirit of connection and use it to make a real difference.

The event will feature a relaxed and social guided open play format, welcoming players of various skill levels who already have a basic understanding of Mahjong. Rusted Arrow and Certified OMM Mahjong instructors Sam Breedlove and Danielle Wood will be present throughout the afternoon to help guide gameplay, support table flow and ensure everyone feels comfortable and included. While Mahjong 101 experience is strongly encouraged, this event is designed to be fun, approachable and community focused rather than instructional.

In addition to Mahjong play, guests will have the opportunity to participate in raffle drawings featuring generous donations from local businesses. All ticket proceeds and raffle ticket sales will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting vital programs that provide care, education, advocacy and research for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Play It Forward is intended to be the first in a series of Mahjong charity events hosted throughout Pensacola. The hope is to continue partnering with local venues and organizations to create meaningful experiences that bring people together while supporting important causes in the community.
