My mother in law had this and it was so sad to watch as she went through each stage. My father in law handled everything for her. We helped when he would let us. Sweetest people I had ever known and truly loved each other until she passed. Thank you for doing this to help others

Serving Up Support for the Alzheimer's Association
Tuesday 18th AugCecilia and I didn't set out to become fundraising partners — we found each other through something we both love: pickleball. But it didn't take long to realize we shared something deeper, too. We'd each watched a family member navigate Alzheimer's and dementia, and we both walked away from that experience wanting to do more than just witness it.
Growing up, I didn't really understand what Alzheimer's meant for the people living with it, or for the families around them. It wasn't until I started working in healthcare, specifically in senior living, that the disease became real to me in a different way. I saw firsthand what our older adults and their loved ones were going through — the confusion, the grief, the small moments of connection that still mattered even as memory faded. That experience changed how I see this disease, and it's what pushed me to get involved.
Last year, I took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. It was powerful, but I kept thinking about how to bring more people into the effort — people who might not show up to a walk, but who would absolutely show up for a game of pickleball. When I found out that Cecilia had done something like this, I knew I wanted to partner up with her.
So that's how this event came to be: two people, one shared loss, and a shared love of a game that brings people together. We're hosting a pickleball event to get our community out on the court, having fun, and supporting the Alzheimer's Association at the same time — because raising awareness and raising funds shouldn't feel like a chore.
If you've ever loved someone affected by Alzheimer's or dementia, you already understand why this matters. And if you haven't, we hope you'll join us anyway — grab a paddle, bring a friend, and help us move closer to a world without Alzheimer's.
