48 Peaks

This year, I'm honoring all those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias by participating in 48 Peaks, a fundraising event to advance the care, family support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Alzheimer's is an important topic to me, and I appreciate you taking the time follow along, join me on a hike or the event, or donate if you're able.

My 2026 goal is to hike to the summit of 21 of New Hampshire's 4,000 foot peaks in the White Mountains National Forest. This would help me complete all 48 of NH's 4,000 footers within two years, and before my 48th birthday. I will post my progress below in the "My Updates" section, or you can follow me on Strava. Please help me reach my goal!

My connections to Alzheimer's include: The loss of my grandmother, Geniece. This year also marks the 25-year reunion of when I completed my undergraduate thesis on Alzheimer's disease. Years ago, I was an organizer for the Ride to End Alzheimer's. And professionally, my current work in healthcare has, at times, involved projects related to caregiving and Alzheimer's.

More on Alzheimer's and the Alzheimer's Association: There has been progress in the world of treatment against Alzheimer's, including the first disease-modifying treatments. But, the fight continues. Today, over 50 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including 7 million Americans. And in the U.S., 11 million caregivers support those with Alzheimer's and dementia. Taking action is part of the need, as the numbers continue to rise.

My Updates

Mount Isolation April 4, 2026

The weather and conditions reports indicated that this was likely the last day I could try to take advantage of the winter shortcuts. It was a nearly bluebird day and I saw only one other person.

Mount Pierce March 29, 2026

This was my second time on Mount Pierce, but first in the winter. It was a great day and really well packed trail. I joined a crew of folks hiking out of the Notch Hostel.

Mount Cabot March 8, 2026

There's a cabin near the summit that is a welcome wind break spot for lunch on the colder days. I found someone's phone on the way down and was able to connect with them and return it through some great luck.

Mount Field and Mount Tom February 22, 2026

After seeing some butt slider and trail sleds in the week prior, I wanted to try it too. It saves the knees on the way down, for sure, but the decline grade needs to be just right.

Cannon Mountain February 15, 2026

This hike was delayed due to a cold blast in the weeks prior. But when it cleared up it was worth it for a bluebird day. On the way down was one of the biggest trail traffic jams I've ever seen when a group struggled with a short, steep descent section.

Mount Tecumseh January 11, 2026

The hike starts right near the Waterville Valley ski resort. I was able to hike in the morning, have lunch, and then do a little nordic skiing nearby in the afternoon.

Mount Hale January 10, 2026

The access road to the Hale Brook trailhead parking lot is closed in the winter, so it adds some miles of a snowed over road approch hike. But, once you get going this a very approachable 4000 footer.
