Happy 33rd Anniversary Richard & Libby!

Love, Laughter and Hope! This is the story of Richard and Libby! Do you know their love story? 

It all started at a summer camp! Camp Gwynn Valley in Brevard, NC. Who knew that when Libby sent me to overnight camp with my friends when I was little would ultimately lead her to the true love of her life?!?!

I was such a happy camper that I returned to work as a counselor during the summer of 1991. One of my cabin mates was Laura! She was from Dallas, where I was attending SMU. Throughout the summer we became friends and somewhere along the way after meeting Libby, we jokingly decided it would be fun to set her dad and my mom up on a blind date! So, in the fall when Libby came for parents weekend we did arrange a date! The first date was awkward and they were both unsure about our plan, but thankfully Libby was back in Dallas two weeks later for a business meeting and they connected again. This began 2 years of long distance love, laughter and hope!! 

On October 2, 1993, Libby and Richard were married in Charlotte, then went to Bald Head Island for their honeymoon! It was a place neither had been, and it allowed for a quick honeymoon so they could both get back to their jobs in Charlotte and Dallas. While they were on their honeymoon they bought a marsh lot on BHI! This is where they built their vacation home the Texas Tarheel! 

Our combined families including Richard, Libby, Laura, Rick, Brigid and Betsey have made so many memories on BHI during the past 33 years! Some of Richard’s favorite times have been cruising the island in his golf cart with their 8 grandchildren…Hannah, Ian, Frankie, Nico, Chaz, Seamus, Maisie and Liza! The golf cart was affectionately named “Horny” because of the Texas Longhorns attached to the front!

In honor of Richard and Libby’s 33rd anniversary I hope you can help us carry on love, laughter and hope for more families living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.

Happy 84th Birthday Richard!

Happy 84th birthday to this incredible human!! He is known far and wide as the best husband, Richard, Dad, RCG, GPR, Gramps, Pops, and my Bonus Dad! We celebrated in grand style today with sing a long fun, Bundt cakes, balloons, cards, gifts, and many new friends at Southminster!
