Come and join this year's 6th annual Tom Lottes 65 in 24 run & bike!

The Tom Lottes 65 in 24 Alzheimer’s Awareness Run & Bike is when a few crazy people get together to run or bike laps around the Wisconsin State Capitol until they reach 65 miles, hopefully in less than 24 hours. This distance usually ends up being roughly 122 laps, starting at 12 AM of June 21st and ending at 12 AM June 22nd. This provides more than enough time for any participant to complete the 65 miles, or any distance they feel comfortable with, in 24 hours. The general set up of the event is pretty loose in hopes of getting everyone active regardless of their fitness level. Participants are free to accomplish their chosen distance by either runwalking, biking, or a combination of the two. Any form of physical activity at any distance is good for the mind and body, so we hope to see you out on the Capitol square this June 21st!

The first 5 years of The Tom Lottes 65 in 24 had always taken place on December 30th and always involved just running and walking. The event moved to June 21st because it is the longest day of the year which seems to match perfectly with a 24-hour run & bike event and will hopefully provide better weather for those who choose to bike. It was also changed to June 21st due to the event organizer being sick of the cold.

Thank you to all our supporters

I really, really appreciate and respect your commitment to putting on this event year after year, not only for honoring your dad, but also for the awareness and resources you raise for dealing with Alzheimers. It's really incredible.

My Updates

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Thursday 25th Jun

Finished the run with a little bit of biking involved. Roughly a 35 mile run and a 30 mile bike full of butt sweat and tears.

Thank you to everyone that came out and has supported the run through the years, my family really appreciates it. I'm sure my dad was watching the family get together with a smile on his face, while I suffered lol.

But really, thank you, and although we did not reach our donation goal I’m always blown away by everyone’s generous donations. This year’s total of $4,300 brings this event’s 6 year total to $20,950 in donations to the Alzheimer’s Association!! We also had 15 participants take part in the event this year with the top three finishers being Brett L (65 miles), Alex k (14 miles), and Stephen L (13 miles).

Thank you all again and I hope to see you out running and biking the Madison trails.

Who was Tom Lottes?

Saturday 7th Feb

Tom lived in the Madison area his entire life and loved his family, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending time outdoors, being a plumber, listening and dancing to music, walking his dog Cora, being part of the community, and helping others. Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease shortly after his 50th birthday and passed away at the age of 57. Tom was never defined by Alzheimer’s disease and lived life to the best of his abilities the last few years attending a Korn concert, rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers, visiting Wisconsin state parks, and spending time with his family. The 65 in 24 Alzheimer’s Awareness Run is in memory of Tom and all the joy he brought to the world and everyone he knew.
