My Story
My reason for supporting the Alzheimer's Association is to FIGHT for new treatments and eventually a CURE! Our family has suffered from Alzheimer's dementia for at least 3 Generations! Our Grandmother, our Mother, 4 of 5 of my mother's siblings and a cousin my age! We have learned that this is caused by a genetic mutation, if you have a parent with this mutation each child has a 50/50 chance of having that mutation AND getting Alzheimer's. Some choose to never know their genetic status and some are willing to find out if their future will have familial Alzheimer's disease in it.
Three members of my immediate family have had genetic testing done. One is negative for the genetic mutation, two are however positive and will certainly develop Alzheimer's disease. I am positive! This is something no one wants to hear, we are able to participate in Drug trials and do fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association which funds research.
