Since our Golf event Jack lost his battle with dementia on Aug 3, 2026. Thank you to all that honored him by participating in the fundraising.
Millions of families are suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementias and in these families many are providing around the clock caregiving. My sister Kay and her family are one of these families. Jack & Kay have shared fifty seven years of love, good times, and special memories! ALZ has affected both of their families, but we were mostly concerned about Kay developing dementia as so many in her family have or had the early onset ALZ gene. Luckily Kay seemed to be escaping that seemingly inevitable path when an unfathomable twist of fate occurred: Jack was diagnosed with dementia 7 years ago since then, Kay has been his faithful caregiver. Luckily she has tremendous support through the Veteran's caregiver program, the folks at Mountain Home Care, and MemoryCare of Asheville. And, her big old extended loving family who knows all too well what this disease looks like is there for her in so many ways-from taking Jack out & about to sharing meals to just simply checking in. Alzheimer's sucks!
