My Updates

My Why

Monday 30th Mar

I’m participating in this year’s Do What You Love Event in honor of my father, Marvin Block, who died of vascular dementia in July of 2023 at the age of 71.

Choosing knitting came easily to me because the very first thing I ever knitted was a terribly knit scarf that I gave to my dad as a Father’s Day gift. This year I am knitting a cowl designed by Ann Budd called Fading Memories. This cowl was designed for the 2026 Do What You Love (formerly The Longest Day) campaign sponsored by Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) to raise funds and awareness for dementia research. For every pattern sold through July 31, 2026, $5 will be donated to Alzheimer’s research with yarn from the Art of Yarn specially dyed to reprint how people with the disease turn into ghosts of their former selves. Something I saw firsthand with my dad.

The  finished cowl will be auctioned off on June 21. With more details to come on how that will happen coming later. With the money raised also going to the Alzheimer’s Association to further their research.

Thank you all for your support and donations!
