Do What You Love to End ALZ Fundraiser

The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day Lia and I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! This is our 5th year we are participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Lia is 7 years old and her great, great grandmother, my mother, had Alzheimer's. She passed away in January 2000 and we are participating in honor and memory of her. Lia's special friend and neighbor also passed away last summer from dementia. We are participating in honor and memory of Lia's great, great grandmother and our neighbor Ruthie.

Lia has been baking since she was 2 years old and loves it! She has since moved to Indiana with her mom but Lia's Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer's fundraiser will still be going on and may even have a bake sale throughout the year to help raise donations and spread awareness for Alzheimer's and Dementia.

 

Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 6 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 11 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
