Wednesday 2nd Sep Hello beautiful humans!!My name is Jordan Kvarda, and this September during World Alzheimer's Month, I've taken on the 30 day "Do What You Love To End Alzheimer's" challenge in honor of my father, Kevin, who passed away in July 2024 due to Early-Onset Alzheimer's & dementia.
Kevin was diagnosed in October 2019 and fought these wicked diseases for 5 long years before he passed. During his early diagnosis, he made a promise both to himself and every other patient in his position; that he would do all that he could to contribute to the fight for a cure. His instant willingness to share his story in support of others truly amazes me and he altered the lives of so many through speeches, public events, webinars, "alz cafe" chats, writing articles, and even reaching out to local political influences in advocacy for himself and others. His catchphrase "have courage, be strong" truly encapsulates his biggest gifts to the world, his courage and his strength.
His love and support never gave me any idea that I couldn't do anything I set my mind to, which heavily influenced my chosen career as a musician. I will be attending AMDA (Los Angeles) in the fall pursuing a BFA in Vocal Performance! One of my absolute favorite ways to honor my father is through song, so during these 30 days I will be sharing snippets of my journey as I prepare to move down to California such as my last gigs in WA, creative process BTS clips, recording, and more while also sharing how I honor my father by doing what i love :)
My dad was my hero in every sense of the word.
He exuded love and peace in every breath and kindness in every word. He was the kind of person you simply can't bring yourself to speak ill of and that didn't go unnoticed. His light and love lives on through those he connected with through the alzheimer's association, particularly in his work at UW Memory & Brain Hub (Seattle, Wa). His legacy is something I can only hope to carry on through my work with Lorenzo's House Int. to assist children of Younger Onset Dementia in processing, grieving, and growing through the loss of a loved one due to memory change.
This fundraiser directly supports not only people in my father's previous situation, but kids like me who just need support seeing the bright sides of this journey.
