Why I Hike — Hiking for a Cure 💜
Friday 10th Apr
For the love of the trail? The exercise? The beauty of nature? The quiet?
The answer is yes… to all of it.
But Hiking for a Cure began in 2022, when I joined Sarah Johnson Molesworth to hike the Vermont Long Trail end-to-end. Just days before heading to Williamstown, MA to begin, I realized something—I needed a deeper purpose to keep me going. It’s easy to quit when things get tough, but I wanted something bigger than myself to push me forward.
That’s when I chose to hike in support of the Alzheimer’s Association.
This disease is devastating. It slowly takes memories and the mind—but somehow, it never takes the heart.
Since then, this journey has become deeply personal.
In June 2023, my mom earned her wings. My grandmother, who lived to nearly 101, battled Alzheimer’s during the last decade of her life. And today, my aunt is living with ALZ.
They are my reason.
Over the past few years, I’ve continued this mission—fundraising while hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail through NJ, NY, CT, MA, and VT. In fall 2025, I decided that I would push myself even further, heading south to Georgia to begin tackling the trail from its start. While I’m not doing a traditional thru-hike, I’m working toward completing it through LASHing (Long Ass Section Hiking) its entirety.
This year, I hike in honor of three incredible women who shaped my life:
💜 My mother, Pat Kirby
💜 My grandmother, Loretta Beaupre
💜 My Aunt S.
Each of them has faced Alzheimer’s with strength, love, and resilience.
This cause means everything to me. Through this fundraiser, I hope to support research, raise awareness, and help bring us closer to a future without Alzheimer’s.
Every donation—no matter the size—makes a difference. Thank you for being part of this fight. 💜

What a wonderful thing you are doing for this amazing charity. You are an inspiration for all of us. To challenge yourself on this difficult section of the AT while raising awareness and funds for its research and hopefully a cure is a testament to your commitment towards making this world of ours a better place.
