Raising money for Alzheimer’s patients and their families
Wednesday 16th Sep Mahjong has gifted me so much including a group of close friends willing to organize and plan a mahjong fundraiser for a worthy cause. Its such a privilege to be able to use our love of mahjong to help patients and their families dealing with Alzheimer’s.My Alzheimer’s story is my maternal grandmother had Alzheimer’s. I never knew her without Alzheimer’s but remember her preference to escape to my room to play when she came to visit. My favorite memory was playing with her in my room and if I tried to.. bend the rules of the game, she’d go “shame shame shame” with one forefinger pointing at me and the other crossing it horizontally in a sweeping motion.
In medical school, I gravitated to neuroscience and neurology, at least partially due to my experience with my grandmother. Eventually, I specialized in sleep, one of the most important ways for the brain to heal and preserve memory. I have since cared for many patients and their families dealing with Alzheimer’s and am grateful to be involved in supporting a fundraiser in their honor. And what better way to raise money for hope and resources for Alzheimer’s while also engaging in an activity that improves memory.
Please join us on 9/24/26 to play mahjong, socialize, raffle prizes and bid on silent auction items, with all proceeds to be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to benefit patients and their families.
