A Cause Close to Us

Wednesday 29th Oct

Brittany and Katie are proud members of the Charlotte community, working women, great friends and avid tennis players whose families have been devastated by dementia.  This is our fifth year hosting the MPCC Alzheimer’s Tennis Fundraiser-a cause that is so close to our hearts.

Katie’s story: My paternal grandmother, Katherine Smith battled Alzheimer’s and passed away in 2000. My father was an avid tennis player and his mom loved watching him play. The tennis tradition is strong in our family.

Brittany’s story: Both my father, Don (age 64), and my mother-in-law, Anne (age 88), passed away from Alzheimer’s dementia.  Don and Anne loved their family and were kind and caring people who were active in the community and improved the lives of others.   My dad was an excellent player who loved tennis.  Every time I play, I give my dad a “heavenly high five.”   Anne was always helping others in her community and I picture her cheering us on as we do our best to make a difference.

For years,  our families cared for and watched as dementia stripped our loved ones of their life, dignity, memories and everything they held dear. They may have forgotten us but we will never forget them.

Hosting the MPCC The Longest Day Tennis fundraiser is our tribute to these amazing individuals and other families struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.

Thank you so much for joining us-together we will make a difference!
