Dancing for Brain Health: 50 Line Dances for 50 Years
Monday 8th JunIf you've landed on this page, thank you for being here.
This fundraiser is deeply personal to me.
I was very close to my mom. Watching someone you love go through Alzheimer's disease is heartbreaking in ways that are difficult to put into words. Alzheimer's doesn't just affect memory, it slowly changes the person you know and love. Over the years, I have watched my mom move through the stages of the disease and experience a gradual decline. There have been moments of sadness, frustration, grief, and helplessness. It has been one of the hardest experiences of my life.
At the same time, it has given me a passion for raising awareness about brain health and supporting efforts to find better treatments, better support for families, and ultimately a cure.
Dance has always been a part of my life. I started dancing as a child and have loved it for as long as I can remember. Dance has brought me joy, friendship, confidence, exercise, and some of my favorite memories. No matter what season of life I was in, dancing was always something that made me feel alive.
A few years ago, I began line dancing. About the same time, I came across research showing that dance may help support brain health and may even help reduce the risk of dementia. I was fascinated. The idea that something I loved so much could also challenge the brain through movement, memory, coordination, music, and social connection inspired me to learn more. The more I read, the more I realized that dance is about far more than learning steps, it's about keeping our minds and bodies engaged, active, and connected.
That's why this fundraiser feels so meaningful to me.
June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, and this year I am also celebrating a milestone birthday, my 50th. To mark the occasion, on June 19th I will be dancing 50 line dances in celebration of turning 50 years old while raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease.
The number 50 represents more than a birthday. It is a celebration of movement, lifelong learning, friendship, and the incredible benefits that dance can bring to our lives. Every dance is dedicated to those living with Alzheimer's, to the families who walk alongside them, and especially to my mom.
My hope is that this fundraiser does more than raise money. I hope it starts conversations about brain health. I hope it encourages people to get moving, connect with others, and discover the joy that comes from dancing. And most importantly, I hope it helps support the important work being done to fight Alzheimer's disease and support the families affected by it every day.
If you'd like to support this cause, I would be grateful for a donation of any size. If you're unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and helping spread awareness is another meaningful way to make a difference.
Thank you for helping me celebrate 50 years, 50 line dances, and a cause that is very close to my heart.
With gratitude,
Nikki
