I will be helping to fight Alzheimer's disease by participating in "Do What You Love to End ALZ", an Alzheimer's Association fundraising event, in memory of my mom, Ellie, my dad, Jim, and sister, Debbie. All three of them died from complications of this horrendous disease.

For this fundraiser, I will be "inking out Alzheimer's" by screenprinting, and taking photographs, to make art pieces that will be sold at a later date, and/or entered in a future art exhibit.

Alzheimer's is a devastatingly cruel disease.

It not only robs the person afflicted of their precious memories, but also any shred of dignity they may have left.

As a caregiver for over 20 years, I can tell you firsthand the effects of this formidable disease reach well beyond the person suffering with this illness.

The toll of chronic physical and emotional stress, as well as the anticipatory grief and anxiety of slowly losing a loved one is immeasurable.

As a result, caregivers can face an increased risk of physical illness, diminished emotional well being, social isolation, and financial challenges as they sacrifice their lives, pursuits, and even employment, to devote time to the care of their loved one.
