Walking the Camino
My mom and my grandma both had Alzheimer’s dementia. In their memory, I focus my fundraising efforts on the Alzheimer’s Association. It is staggering to me that over 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and around 12 million Americans are providing unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. I remain optimistic that we will find new treatments or new medications to slow the progression of this disease.
This year’s Alzheimer’s Association fundraising theme is, “Do What You Love to End ALZ”. I like hiking and walking. So, I have chosen to walk the Camino de Santiago from Oia, Spain to Santiago, Spain, close to 100 miles over one week with seven of my friends. We start the walk on September 16th. As I walk along, I will keep the people suffering with dementia and their caregivers in my thoughts and prayers.
