Today my father would have turned 79 years old if it weren’t for Alzheimer’s taking his life. In honor of of my father, and to help advance Alzheimer’s research, I have teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Association to start a fundraiser. 

I will be doing something that both my dad and I love, motorcycle riding. For 4 weekends in April  I will be riding my Triumph motorcycle to various locations around my home in Texas. My goal is to ride at least 1000 miles.
What I ask of my friends and family is to spread the word and donate what you can. Whether you donate per mile or just give a one time donation, every little bit helps. 
So please come join me in remembering Steve and let’s put an end to this aweful disease!

Tuesday 28th Apr
Trip 4 is complete. I surpassed my goal of riding 1000 miles by 250 miles! The beauty of hill country gave me a second wind!

Although I didn’t reach my goal of raising $2500 I did manage to bring in $1742 through all of your generous donations. I’m proud to have so many generous friends and family members. The great thing about working with this organization is I can continue the fundraising efforts for as long as I like. I already have some ideas for running events close to home in the future.

My dad would have loved reading these posts and seeing the photos from all of my rides. I know he was with me throughout the whole event. I’m grateful that I was able to do this even in his honor.

Trip 3 complete

Monday 20th Apr
You never know what the Texas weather will throw at you in April. It was a blustery morning ride out to Sabine Battle Ground on the Texas Louisiana border. It was a small battle but a very important victory for the confederate army at the time. Look it up if you enjoy Civil War history. 276 miles round trip puts me at 676 miles with only 1 weekend left. A trip to hill country should be just about right. 


Week 2 trip

Sunday 12th Apr
This was a short week. Just a quick day trip up to Fort Boggy State Forest. I did a little hiking in the woods when I was there, something my father always loved to do. Connecting with nature is always good for the soul. 153 miles round trip puts me right at 400 miles. 

Next weekend, weather permitting, I plan to make a trip to Sabine battle ground in Port Arthur Texas. This is the site of a Civil War battle. Civil War history was my dad's favorite and I look forward to learning more about this battle. 

Just over 2 weeks to go and I am still short of my goal of $2500. For these last 2 weeks I will match dollar for dollar any donation up to reaching my goal. $25 becomes $50, $50 becomes $100. No donation is too small. Every little bit helps. The statistics are overwhelming, 1 in 3 older adults will die with Alzheimer's or a related form of dementia. We are all effected by this disease in one way or another. Help fund the effort to find a cure. Thank you for all of the donations up to this point! Stay tuned for week 3's trip.

Sunday 5th Apr
The trip to Galveston was a success. 247 miles down, 753 to go. Although the weather wasn't perfect, we did manage to stay dry. There's nothing better than spending a weekend on an adventure with my wife. My father would have loved to here the story of our motorcycle trip. 

There is still time to donate. I am still a little short of my goal. 100% of the donations go to the Alzheimer's Association to support research and help families in need. Thank you all for your generous donations so far!

Wednesday 1st Apr
It’s hard to believe that April is already here! First up, Galveston this weekend. We’re hoping for good weather but it’s not looking too promising. Figures crossed that the forecast improves.

The bike is ready. Got the luggage fitted and all of the safety checks completed. I’m excited to get started on this adventure. More updates and photos to come soon as the riding begins.

Sunday 15th Mar
Only 3 weeks to go before my first trip. I will kick off my motorcycle tour with a trip to Galveston. My wonderful wife Anita has decided to join me on the first leg. We will depart April 4th and spend the night on Bolivar Island. April 5th, we will take a ferry across to Galveston and visit the Navel Museum, something my father would love to have seen. The total trip should be about 260 miles total. 

I am over half way to my goal of raising $2500 for the Alzheimer's Association. This money goes to research and support for Alzheimer's patents and their families. Please continue to spread the word to family and friends. Together we can make a difference!

Wow, I am humbled by all of the donations I have received so far. I big thank you to you all!

I completed the annual maintenance on the bike last night. She's all ready for the long hauls ahead. 1 month to go and still a lot of planning to do. Stay tuned. 

Trip planning begins!

Friday 27th Feb
Dad was always a Harley man but I prefer the modern classic motorcycles. This is my Triumph Speed Twin 900. It'll be my faithful companion as I travel to raise money for Alzheimer's research.

My trip planning has begun with a trip to Galveston and Texas Hill Country in the mix. Stay tuned, there's more to come and still plenty of time to donate. Thanks to all that have already done so!
