Why I Fundraise
Saturday 6th Sep
Hi everyone!
You can call me Bree. This will be my second year participating in the Do What You Love to End ALZ campaign, formally known as The Longest Day. I’ve also participated a few times in the local Walk To End ALZ. I’m also proud to say that I am a a volunteer for both campaigns!
How I found myself doing this, you may ask? Well it all started when I because a CNA. I frequently worked on the Alzheimer’s/Dementia unit, and saw the symptoms up close and personal. I often saw family members cry when their loved ones did not recognize them. My great-grandmother had dementia, but I was young and didn’t understand what was going on. She often confused me for my aunt. I started making connections once I worked so closely with my residents affected by the disease.
It wasn’t until I started doing office work for Visiting Angels, that I started participating in these campaigns. I saw how passionate people were about a cure. How amazing it was to see everyone come together for a cure, even though we were all strangers. That is why I decided to keep doing these fundraisers. To come together and find a cure.
