My Updates

For the Ones We’ve Lost—and the Ones Still Fighting

Saturday 18th Apr

I didn’t always understand what Alzheimer’s really took from a person—until it took from me.

It started with small things. My aunt forgetting a name, my uncle repeating stories we’d just heard. At first, we laughed it off, calling it “just getting older.” But slowly, those small moments turned into something heavier. Conversations became one-sided. Familiar faces became strangers. The people who once held our family together began to slip away, piece by piece.

Losing two family members to Alzheimer’s wasn’t like a single moment of goodbye. It was a long, quiet heartbreak—watching them fade while still being right in front of us. You grieve them while they’re still here, and then you grieve them all over again when they’re gone.

Now, someone I hold very close is walking that same path. A dear friend—someone full of life, laughter, and memories we built together—is beginning to lose those very memories. And this time, I understand exactly what’s happening. I see the signs. I feel the weight of it. And I know how the story can end.

That’s why I’m choosing to act.

This fundraiser isn’t just about money—it’s about fighting back against something that has taken so much from the people I love. It’s about honoring the memories of those we’ve lost and standing beside those still fighting. It’s about hope—hope for better treatments, for a cure, and for a future where families don’t have to go through this kind of loss.

Because Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect one person—it touches everyone who loves them. And no one should have to face it alone.
